Exact values for a sample of pellets or chips
Thanks to Near Infrared (NIR) technology it is possible to obtain, in under 6 seconds, the exact values for vital variables needed by biomass handlers or users, such as humidity, density, energy contents or ash contents in a sample of pellets or chips.
Swedish company Perten Instruments have built this technology into some of their measuring devices. For the result to be as accurate as possible, you only need to select a representative sample, take the measurement carefully and avoid user errors, particularly when taking the sample.
Pellets or chips are poured into a simple tray that is placed under an NIR beam. The touch screen is used to select the product to be analysed and start the process. Only 6 seconds later the results are available. The tray is easily emptied with no risk of material remaining that could contaminate the next sample and corrupt the readings taken.
There are models for laboratories and for outdoor use that can be connected remotely to a centralised data gathering point.
The model presented by the Swedish company was developed by them together with a Swedish pellets producer.
